Eagles line is brutish

Don't mess with the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line.

It is nasty.

By trading for left tackle Jason Peters Friday -- the deal is pending a new contract and Peters passing a physical -- the Eagles might now be able to stake a claim as having the best line in the NFL, complete with brawlers and maulers.

With Peters in at left tackle, the Eagles can keep Todd Herremans at left guard. The right side will be made up of the Andrews brothers, Shawn at guard and Stacy at tackle, and the center is Jamaal Jackson. From tackle-to-tackle, the line will average 331 pounds. That will wear down a defense for four quarters.

Peters didn't play that well last season for the Buffalo Bills after missing training camp in a contract holdout. But he's always been one of the tackles I've liked watch play. He is nasty. When he came out of Arkansas as a tight end, I listed him as one of my annual "Better-than" players that year, players who I liked more than the scouts.

In that column I mentioned that I thought Peters could be a really good tackle. You can look it up.

I like this move by the Eagles, just like I liked the move to sign Stacy Andrews as a free agent from the Bengals. The Eagles line is now big, powerful and physical.

It is also young.

When the season starts, Jackson will be the oldest at 29. Stacy Andrews will be 28, Peters 27, Shawn Andrews and Heremans each 26.

I'll take that group right now over any other in the league for age, nastiness and talent.

Getting Peters is a great move for the Eagles. The price of a three picks. including the No. 28 pick in the first round of next week's draft, and a new contract is steep. But if Peters plays like he did a few years ago, this will be well worth it.

Eagles line is brutish

Yeah, the Eagles OL played the Giants DL 3 times last year, and the Giants had a total of ZERO sacks in those 3 games.  And now the Eagles line is even better

And Giants have the best and deepest DL in the league, including getting back the guy who sacked McNabb 6 times in one game

The Eagles have been looking for a big target WR for the longest, look how good they were when T.O was there, McNabb needs a pro-bowl target out there. They gave up alot (picks) to get Peters, but they should have used those picks on a big name WR (braylon edwards or a.boldin), and YES the GIANTS DL will "handle" the Eagled OL. The Giants will get either 'Q" or Braylon for Eli and then the NFC East will look like easy pickins for the G-Men.

You predicted someone COULD be a really good tackle? Whoah, what a bold prediction...

Amen!! I've watched Peters throughout his career here...he is definitely over rated. Prisco can say what he wants but when he

goes against the Giants DL and the others in the Division....he won't look as All pro !!!

Braylon is not a big name receiver and not worth trading for.  He led the league in drops BY FAR.

Boldin is good but the Eagles don't need him that bad to give up a #1.  They made it to the NFL championship game with what they have and next year they will be better.  Jackson has a year under his belt, Avant has a full year under his belt, and Curtis is healthy.

The Eagles dont NEED to trade for a WR, especially Braylon.

The Giants on the other hand NEED a WR.

Not worried about the Eagles at all.  They were one game away last year and didnt really have a great year out of anyone.

All Prisco cares about is him being right ALL of the time. Pretty annoying. He is wrong more than he is right. I love when people call into his shows and he says that they are "entitled to their wrong opinion." What a loser. Most of the time i agree with the caller in those scenarios. He is just trying to compensate for being a little midget.

Here you go again

As usual you feel the need to tell us what you got right... it is the one consistent aspect of your columns. Please stop unless you will also keep a running score of all the predictions you missed on... which I'm sure is a much longer list.
