Bruschi can't run anymore

Old and slow in the NFL means it's time to go.
Tedy Bruschi is the latest example. Bruschi, the longtime New England linebacker, will announce his retirement Monday. He's been a try-hard, effort player for his entire 13 seasons in the league, but it was quite evident the past couple of seasons that the game had passed him by.
He was too slow for the way the game is played now.
Did you see him try and keep up with Redskins tight end Chris Cooley on the long pass in last Thursday's preseason game? It was sad.
Bruschi never had great speed, but he made up for it with his awareness and his toughness. But in recent years, after suffering a minor stroke in 2005, he hasn't been the same.
The Patriots had to know this. Bruschi did too, which is probably why they both agreed to this arrangement.
I used to say I'd take 22 Bruschis for my starting group. OK, 21. Not the quarterback. But you get the point. He was a relentless player and a class act.
He will be missed.
But from a football standpoint, his time had come.
Old and slow, and you must go.

Bruschi can't run anymore

Patriots should do the classy thing and offer Tedy Bruschi a job as an assistant position coach.  Like linebackers coach.  His attitude and ability to elevate players around him with his tough-as-nails approach would really help players learn the game at the NFL level.  Linebacker is the hardest position to learn on an NFL defense, and imo, the second hardest to learn when going from college to pro (QB being the absolute toughest, and runningback comes in at a close 3rd).

Grograns, you said it best!  Why can't you take over for Prisco?

Bruschi can't run anymore

Prisco, you're a douche bag.  Where do you get off slamming one of the most respected players in the NFL.  If that was your way of giving him a gracious and memorable good by, you suck at your job and should be fired.  This guy had a stroke and then continued to play in the NFL and be successful, what challenges have ever had to fight and come back from.  Get a life and have a fatal stroke you bum!

Bruschi can't run anymore

It is not personal, it is his way.  He has no heart.  It was removed in a freak surgery to remove too many chicken wings lodged in his stomach.  By accident they took the heart too!

Sad really!  ;)

Bruschi can't run anymore

grograns take on Ol' Petey is one of the best I've seen. Witty and cleverly humorous without the usual blogger - hate so often seen in the CBS community.

Prisco owes you a response for your well done effort.

Bruschi can't run anymore

I know I'm in the minority, but I think Prisco's post was factual.  He simply stretched reporting on a player's retirement it to make a point about the NFL instead of just a sappy tribute to a player he was fond of.

I've liked Bruschi ever since he was tearing up the Pac-10.

But I appreciate the sobering reminder that even our heros get old and they get slow and there's a time for them to go.  The facts seem obvious - if Bruschi were not old and slow (by NFL standards), he'd still be playing.  It's sad, and it's a good thing Prisco picked a player as well-respected as Bruschi to remind us.  It's nothing more than the life cycle of the professional athlete.

Good luck to Bruschi and his family in whatever their next challenge is.

Props Grograns, that was laugh out loud funny.  I have nothing against Prisco, but your post is hillarious!

Bruschi can't run anymore

Enjoy those 3 asterisks, i mean SB rings, Bruschi

Your name says it all. Is everybody in your family drunk and stupid?  I'm not a fan of New England nor am I a fan of anybody in the AFC, but to say that there is even one asterisk is something only fools with very low iq's say. OR, a child... one or the other.

They got "busted" and then proceeded to win every game they played until the superbowl where they lost to the biggest miracle catch in the history of the NFL and one of the craziest and luckiest plays ever in all of sports.

Grow up little man.. grow up.....
