Idiot-talk of the day: Randy Moss, who is said to be retiring, shouldn't be a first-ballot selection into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

What?

Once again I have to remind my righteous peers that it isn't the Life Hall of Fame. It's the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and there is no denying he should be there, no matter what you think about him.

Moss was punk at times. I've watched him disrespect reporters. I've watched him wave off kids seeking autographs. He is not a nice guy. Don't dare try and tell me otherwise.

And, yes, he has loafed at times during games.

But there is no denying what he has done on the field. Look at the numbers. Look at the player.

He is eighth all-time in catches with 954. He is fifth in receiving yards, and all four guys in front of him played a lot longer. He is tied for second in touchdown catches with Terrell Owens with 153, both behind Jerry Rice. Moss had 10 or more in nine seasons.

He averaged 15.6 yards per catch in his career. Owens and Rice are both at 14.8.

So don't tell me that Moss shouldn’t be an easy Hall pick.

Just because some higher-than-thou selectors might have had a bad experience with him, or he's not the greatest person, doesn't mean he shouldn't get selected.

If that were the case, we'd have to go back in and take out some of those busts in Canton, like the initial guys: O.J. and L.T.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but to compare Moss to LT or OJ is dumb, because you are right, off the field issues don't really matter. But OJ and LT brought it every game. Nobody ever accused them of not playing full speed. However we all know Moss loafed and at times didn't even pretend to run routes. And last year, Darelle Revis actually called Moss a quitter and said he wasn't even trying. And that's a Hall of Famer? Because he put up some stats in a couple of pass friendly offenses? In addition, receiver seems to be one of the hardest if not the hardest position to get into the HOF. So I guess we'll see in 5 years, although I don't think we've seen the last of Moss on the field.

He is the best receiver since Jerry Rice retired, and the numbers prove it. Moss was many things off the field, but no one should care about that for the Hall of Fame. Sure, he won’t be receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom or the Nobel Peace Prize anytime soon. He did not play his hardest all the time, but he still racked up amazing numbers. Jerry Rice played until 44, Moss is only 34, and is close to rice in almost every stat. He probably has more natural talent than Jerry Rice did; Jerry Rice just had a whole lot more work ethic, than Randy Moss does. Also what time has forgiven is that Jerry Rice was no Randy Moss, but he also wasn’t a Time Magazine Man of the Year candidate either. We should not judge potential members of the Hall of Fame members by the off the field antics. Prisco is right on the money with this one!

If Moss is a first ballot, then so is Owens. If both are eligible at the same time, Moss should not get in before Owens.
