Brees breaks Dan Marino's record

Posted on: December 26, 2011 11:43 pm

NEW ORLEANS -- On a night he took down Dan Marino' single-season record for yards passing, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees did something far more important.

He led his team to a division title.

In doing so, with an impressive carving up of the Atlanta Falcons, Brees passed Marino's record for passing yards in the fourth quarter. The game was stopped to acknowledge the feat, which came on a 9-yard touchdown pass to Darren Sproles with 2:51 left, but for Brees it's far less important than the Saints winning the NFC South.

If the Saints beat the Panthers this Sunday and the 49ers lose to the Rams, the Saints will be the second seed in the NFC. But if the 49ers win, the Saints are locked in as the third seed.

They will be one heck of a dangerous No. 3 seed.

The Saints are riding high behind Brees' arm, which has been hotter than a bucket of Louisiana hot sauce.  It looks like they are on a collision course with the Packers, but you never know in the playoffs.

Brees breaks Dan Marino's record

Buying Refs???  Is that the best excuse you have, buying refs???  Would love for you to calm down, relax, take a deep breath and come back in a couple of days and read your post and then, only then will you realize how silly it sounds.  Kind of like looking at a picture of yourself from the 1980's and, did I really wear that.  Buying refs.  Just out of curiosity, what does one go for?

Brees breaks Dan Marino's record

so fed up of this record...aren't brady and rodgers also going to pass it next week..what a joke..saints totally classless for throwing that far ahead in the game, could have done it early next week since the game will matter for seeding..saints also made sure to buy some refs, last night, as usual, though atl was so bad they didn't need em

Brees breaks Dan Marino's record

If you and the falcons don't want Brees to get the record, then play some defense and stop them. You are the classless person here.

Brees breaks Dan Marino's record

Congratulations to Drew Brees!

I only wish they would flex the New Orleans/Carolina game to a 4:15 start so that Brady can break Brees' record in the early game (he is only 190 yards behind), and then Bress could re-break Brady's record and have another celebration.

This won't end up happening--he is too many yards behind, but if at any point during the Patriots game, Brady catches Brees, I wonder if the league and/or the announcers would acknowledge this.

Brees breaks Dan Marino's record

Hey Pete, with nothing else but to see who would win the division, what a great trip it would be for any journalist in NFL football.  The fact that you are a Falcon at heart, how lucky you are to be invited to the Superdome to witness again the better team, this time in more decisive fashion...Saints!  To have to receive your drivel and back-handed compliments?  Please don't get on the soapbox about the record.  Media sucks in general and the bias in sports now is embarrassing.  There are so many on other networks, but yours always strikes a chord.  You were in the Superdome tonight, how'd that feel being a part of the visiting team?  It felt great for me because we treat all visitors with the similar welcome....come into our house and prepare to register an "L".  Nothing personal, it's just how we roll.  We'll be 13-3 at season's end and either 2 or 3, doesn't really matter.  We'll have at least one at home and we'll continue to take to the road.  Cold weather ain't a deterant to a team on a mission, it's just a temperature.

Prisco you called for the falcons to hurt Drew Brees on twitter?? Pay the fine and take him out?? You shouyld be fired on the spot because thats not professional my friend! If you don"t agree with something that ok but calling for another team to hurt somebody? Its funny how you writers call out players when they tweet something stupid but its ok for you right? You are a piece of trash!! SAD
